ANTONIO OSENDE, DISSENT ON THE ROLE OF WOMEN IN THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE

With notable attendance of public, among which was the General Head of the General Staff of the Operational Logistics Force; the Delegate of Defense in Galicia and the Naval Commander of La Coruña, was held, in the afternoon of yesterday, in the Cultural Room of the Sporting Club Casino, a new act of the “Coruñesas Pages” Cycle, organized by the Association of Meigas de the Bonfires of San Juan, within the program of the HOGUERAS-2019.

On this occasion, the guest of this forum was Antonio Osende Barallobre, a researcher from Coruña, an expert in the Napoleonic campaigns and, in a special way, in our War of Independence, who offered an interesting conference entitled “La Coruña 1809. Between ladies and cantineras. The woman in the War of Independence “, in which she spoke about the figure of women who, with different motives, accompanied the fighting armies in that bloody and long campaign, without ignoring a reference to the popular, Spanish heroines on foot who fought against the French between 1808 and 1814.

The lecturer was introduced by Carmen Mª No Varela, director of the Meigas Association, who described the figure of the speaker. At the conclusion of the exhibition, the President of the Association of Meigas, Mª Concepción Astray, gave the lecturer a memory of his time in the program of the HOGUERAS-2019.
