FRANCISCO VAZQUEZ, CERRO BRIGHTLY THE 50th ANNIVERSARY OF THE MAJOR MEIGA

The former Mayor of La Coruña, Francisco Vázquez Vázquez, President of Honor and Gold Medal of the Bonfire Promotion Commission of San Juan, was in charge, yesterday afternoon, in the Culture Room of the Sporting Club Casino, to close the extraordinary program of events on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Meiga Mayor that have been developing since last January.

Francisco Vázquez, delivered an interesting, entertaining and documented conference that, under the title “The year the bonfire was lit”, toured the vicissitudes and highlights of 1970, the year in which the Promoter Commission was born and proclaimed the First Meiga Mayor.

A conference that enchanted the large audience that attended the event and rewarded the speaker with loud applause, while praising the unrepeatable figure of an unparalleled Coruña as is the case of Francisco Vázquez.

In his excited dissertation, he outlined the work of the Bonfires Commission that, in his words, internationalized the party, taking it to the levels of popularity in which it is currently.

The lecturer was presented by the President of the Association of Meigas, Mª de la Concepción Astray, and at her conclusion, the 2019 Child Meiga Mayor, Ainhoa Souto, gave her a souvenir of the HOGUERAS-2019.

The act was attended by the Delegate of Defense in Galicia, the General Chief of the General Staff of the FLO, the Military Commander of La Coruña, as well as different representations of Entities of the city.

With this act, the 50th anniversary acts of the Meiga Mayor are officially closed.
