TODAY, 500 YEARS AGO

Just like today, August 10, the day of San Lorenzo, from the year of grace of 1519, the expedition of Juan Sebastián Elcano and Fernando de Magallanes started from Seville, thus beginning the first circumnavigation of the land, an epic due to the 16th-century Spaniards and the monarch D. Carlos I. A historical fact that should not go unnoticed by anyone.

Juan Sebastián Elcano, would return to Spain, after fulfilling his glorious feat, in September 1522, aboard the Nao “Victoria”, along with 17 crew members.

This glorious Spanish sailor would embark again, this time on the expedition of García Jofre de Loaísa, who sailed from La Coruña on July 24, 1525, to the Moluccas , never returning to Spain, dying in the company.
