We are pleased to reproduce the letter sent to us by Vanessa Grobas Mantiñán, Meiga de Honor of the HOGUERAS-2015 and member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Meigas, entitled "Experience of a Meiga".
"An unforgettable experience that has allowed me to meet people from other ages and from different neighborhoods of La Coruña, to create new friendships and to see how the dream of a whole year is fulfilled.
When they choose the Gentle Major of nine girls who barely know the nerves come out to know if the name to be named will be yours or that of another girl; But whether it is yours or not, you will live a dream that, in my opinion, every girl and woman should live at least once in their life.
Thanks to the Association of Meigas we live almost unique experiences in life, we go in procession in Holy Week, we celebrate the poetic Aquelarre and the poetic Solstice where we grow older and small, a night-night of laughter and good moments, all through June There are concerts of music and dance that we attend, spending unique moments together and getting to know each other more and more each time we see each other.
But the most important thing of all is that the night of San Juan arrives, a night that no longer you only wait for her to be Meiga, but you wait for her to be of La Coruña. On that day we go in the morning to the church of the third order to light the fire of San Juan and in the afternoon … we prepare for the most anticipated night. We put on our dresses and go to the bonfire in a carriage where you are handing out candy, but for me that was in the background and seeing the illusion of the children who were there collecting those candies and see both older and younger waiting To ignite that bonfire that is a symbol of our culture, that for me is priceless, is something that only lives once in life.
I was not Meiga Mayor but Honor in 2015, and the experience of seeing the fires before the burning of the bonfire and then see the burning of the bonfire surrounded by some girls, who knew nothing before starting in The Meigas but that year we created a friendship and we had a lot of complicity, we started to cry seeing how we had spent a year of friendship, remembering everything we had lived together and how in one night all that increased because it was the Night we've been waiting a long time.
I know that many people do not understand how tonight can be so special for us, but I believe that in order to understand it, we must live it from within, live as new friendships are born, as you can count on them for anything and especially how to live a special night of Different way.
Today the Association of Meigas are being left out of the organization of the HOGUERAS , but I ask myself a question: if these people who we had had a daughter, who wanted to be gentle, the story would be the same or not?
Whatever the answer to that question, I think they should think that not only play at the stake of who is organizing the feast of San Juan but also play with the illusion of some girls and girls who have the illusion of seeing how His Bigger and Bigger Kids light a bonfire that in our culture is a symbol of renewal.
I just ask that they stop playing with the things that everyone likes and that if they do not believe that the girls live with the illusion that they speak with each of the Meigas that have passed through the years by the Association and They will realize that it is not only a matter of lighting a bonfire, but also creating new friendships and living with them unique and beautiful experiences.
