MAGNIFICENT CONFERENCE OF GENERAL ORTI

Yesterday afternoon, in the Culture Room of the Sporting Club Casino, within the Cycle “Pages Coruñesas” of the HOGUERAS , the Brigadier General of the Marine Infantry, Juan Orti, offered a pleasant and documented conference on the figure of the Master of Campo Lope de Figueroa, one of the most prominent military figures of our sixteenth century and who raised awareness of the Crown of the need to create Spanish Infantry Tercios with the capacity to fight both at sea and from the sea, which constituted the embryo of our glorious Marine Infantry, the oldest in the world (1537).

The lecturer was presented by the President of the Association of Meigas de las Hogueras de San Juan, Mª Concepción Astray, and by the Brigade General of the Marine Infantry, Carlos Pérez -Urruti, Commander of the Army Protection Force.

The event was attended by the General Chief of the Maneuver Support Command; the Delegate of Defense in Galicia and the Naval Commander of La Coruña, along with other representations, as well as a large number of spectators, following the rules dictated by the Health Authorities.

At the end of the conference, the President of the Association of Meigas, gave the speaker a souvenir of his time in the Cycle “Pages Coruñesas” that restarted its activities after more than a year of having been suspended.
