HOMAGE TO MARIA PITA

At 8 o’clock in the afternoon, the Comite de las Meigas-2017, which had left just before the Canton Grande, entered the Plaza de María Pita. On arrival at the square they began to occupy the assigned posts, beginning the central act of the day of Homage to the Coruña woman before the monument to Maria Pita.

The act began with the interpretation of a muiñerira by the Ballet BAINGA that to its conclusion gave way to the reading of a brief semblance of the honored coruñesas; After this reading, the Meiga Mayor 2017 read the text of the official offering and at its conclusion the Corals of the Sagrada, Club del Mar and Aires Novos de Pravio intoned the pasodoble “Meiga Mayor”.

Then, to the chords of a passodoble the Lady of San Juan next to the Meigas de Honor and Meigas de Honor Infantiles deposited bouquets of flowers at the foot of the monument to Maria Pita after which the Meiga Mayor and the President of the Association of Meigas deposited A bouquet of flowers before the statue of the heroine.

The act concluded with the interpretation of the Hymns of Galicia and National.

Previously, Commission staff distributed flowers to women on the streets of the city center.

The act was attended, together with the public, different representations.
