EUGENIO FERNANDEZ BARALLOBRE, REVIEW THE FIRST YEARS OF THE BONFIRES

In the afternoon of yesterday, in the Cultural Room of the Sporting Club Casino, José Eugenio Fernández Barallobre, one of the creators of the figure of the Meiga Mayor, reviewed, in a pleasant and relaxed talk of anecdotes, the first years of the Bonfires of San Juan de Fernando Macías, germ of the Promoting Commission of the Bonfires of San Juan that, in June 1970, chose the First Meiga Mayor.

For more than an hour, the speaker reviewed the years between 1962 and 1970, the prehistory of the current HOGUERAS , remembering names and nice anecdotes from those early years of the Bonfires of San Juan, which deserved the applause of the attendees.

The event was attended by the General Head of the Operational Logistics Force, the Delegate for Defense in Galicia, the Naval Commander of La Coruña, the former Mayor José Manuel Liaño, President of the Sporting Club Casino and some of the founders of the Promoting Committee of the Bonfires of San Juan.

Together with them, 50 Meiga Mayor, the President of the Meigas Association and members of its Board of Directors, as well as numerous friends and supporters among whom was Mª Jesús Herrero , VOX candidate for mayor of A Coruña, as well as Antonio Deus, Popular Party candidate for the City Council of La Coruña.

The speaker was introduced by Carmen Mª No Varela, Meiga de Honor of the HOGUERAS-1995.

At the end of the talk, 50 Meiga Mayor, Emma Cabezas, gave the speaker a reminder of his time in the “Pages Coruñesas” series.
