THE MEIGAS OF THE HISTORY OF SAN JUAN, IN THE PROCESSIONS OF THE SANTA CORUÑESA WEEK

The Meigas Mayor and Children of the Bonfires of San Juan, along with their Meigas de Honor, take part in different processions throughout the Holy Week of Corunna.

This year 2017 the young women have already been present in the processions of La Borriquita, which was celebrated on Palm Sunday and in which traditionally only the children's Meigas dressed in regional costume Galician. Today, Holy Tuesday, the Major and the Infant, along with their Meigas de Honor will be in the procession of La Piedad which is scheduled to start at 9:00 p.m. The majors will be played with Spanish Mantilla and in the case of the small, they will wear a regional costume and cover their head with the traditional cap.

In the next few days the girls will be part of the procession that will accompany the streets of La Coruña to the following processions:

  • Holy Christ of Good Comfort. Holy Wednesday. 9:00 p.m.
  • Jesus Nazarene and Our Lady of Bitterness. Holy Thursday. 7:30 p.m.
  • Entombment. Holy Friday. 7:00 p.m.
  • Holy Saturday. 7:00 p.m.

All these processions are organized by the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Soledad and the Holy Burial and begin their journey from the Venerable Third Order (VOT). Since 1995, the Commission for the Promotion of the San Juan Bonfires established a collaboration with this brotherhood, under which the girls accompany different images in their processions through the city. In 2011, at the request of the Minister of the Third Order, the Promoter Commission was distinguished as Cofrade de Honor and was assigned as the titular procession of the Santísimo Cristo del Consuelo ('The Christ of the Creeds'), By members of the National Police Corps, who is also a Cofrade de Honor.
