A DOCUMENTED CONFERENCE OF FERNANDEZ CAAMAÑO, OPENED THE CYCLE “PAGINAS CORUÑESAS”

Amena, interesting and documented was the conference offered yesterday afternoon, in the halls of the Sporting Club Casino, by the researcher José Mª Fernández Caamaño from A Coruña, who made an extensive tour through the long history of the Municipal Fire Department of La Coruña, which has more than 180 years of history at the service of our city and Coruñeses.

Fernández Caamaño, after making an excited semblance of the Meigas and what they suppose as the soul of the San Juan fiestas in our city, began to refer to the long history of the media with which our city has counted, for 230 years, to undertake the numerous and serious fires that have devastated different buildings in A Coruña throughout these years.

In his documentary lecture, translated into his book on this same subject published in past dates, he referred to the most notable fires suffered in La Coruña, the Flax Pavilion, the Teatro Colón, the old North Station, the Artillery and Infantry Barracks, among others, in which the Municipal Fire Department stood out for its solvency and dedication to service.

He also made a balance of the means with which the Corps has counted from its origins to the present. In short, a complete tour of the history of this veteran and beloved Municipal Corps, which won the applause of the public.

At the conclusion of the conference, 50 Meiga Mayor, Emma Cabezas, gave the lecturer a reminder of his time at the HOGUERAS-2019 , in so much that José Mª Fernández Caamaño gave him a book of the 230 years of history of the Municipal Fire Department, dedicated to the Association of Meigas de las Hogueras de San Juan.
