GRANTING THE GOLD MEDAL TO THE NATIONAL POLICE

Recently, the plenary session of the Board of Directors of the Organizing Commission of the Bonfires of San Juan awarded, at the proposal of the Promoting Commission of the Bonfires of San Juan, the Entity’s Gold Medal to the National Police, in recognition of his two hundred years of service to Spain and the Spanish people.

The Gold Medal is the highest distinction that, on an extraordinary basis, is awarded by the Commission of the Bonfires of San Juan, being reserved, on an ordinary basis, for the Honorary Presidents of the same and, on an extraordinary basis, for Institutions, Entities and individuals, as stated in article 7.1 of the current Regulations on honors and distinctions.

To date, this distinction has never been granted beyond the Honorary Presidents who hold it, the Excmos. Messrs. Vázquez Vázquez, Losada de Azpiazu and Negreira Souto, all of whom were Mayors of La Coruña, being the first time it has been awarded to an Institution.

The awarding of the distinction will take place during the next Poetic Aquelarre Festival, an act of exaltation of the Meiga Mayor, to be celebrated next May.

We congratulate the National Police for this concession, which represents a sincere tribute of admiration to a Corps that has been serving all Spaniards since 1824.
